According to venture capitalist Fred Wilson, the most important question facing Twitter isn’t how they’re going to make money. Rather, it’s helping the average person understand why they should use the micro-blogging service. Read more in this ZDNet post…

Promote Your Brand Web 2.0 Style: Part One
This marks part one of a three part series I’ll be bringing you in my Friday column, Eye on the Web. During this series you’ll meet a realtor, a publisher and an antiques dealer who are using the web in new and creative ways. Rather than settling for a static website with little online interaction, each of these business owners are reaching out and engaging their customers, creating a “buzz” about their company and products, and finding new ways to grow their businesses. Track Your MPG with Twitter and Fuelfrog
Back in April of this year, fellow Knoxvillian Casey Peters inspired me to start tracking my gas mileage. At the time, Casey mentioned that he kept his stats using a plain old pencil and paper. Later he would enter those details into Excel. On the other hand, I was looking for something more convenient. Enter Fuelfrog. Using Twitter, you can text message your gas stats to Fuelfrog each time you fill up. Continue Reading

Twitter’s Reliability is on the Rise
According to Biz Stone, Co-founder of Twitter, down time is becoming less frequent at everyone’s favorite micro-blogging service. In this month’s Twitter email, Stone reports that “last month we saw 99.88% uptime and so far this month we are at 99.96%.” Stone credits the engineering and operations team with taking a “craftsman-like” and “methodical” approach to improving Twitter.

What is Twitter?
Many of my non-techie (and techie) friends have been asking me about Twitter, the micro-blogging service that always has you answering the question, “What are you doing?” So, rather than continually sending the same links and posting the same videos, I’m writing this post to compile my favorite resources for explaining what it is. If I’m missing one of your favorite resources, please let me know in the comments. If you don’t know what Twitter is and the links and the video in this post still leave you with questions, let me know, and I’ll update this with more answers and links. Continue Reading

Why We Use Twitter
This morning I participated in a live presentation on Twitter given by Jose Castillo (@thinkjose). During his presentation, he posed the following question to his followers on Twitter: “Hey I’m talking with some folks about twiiter – please reply with why you use it or DM me – live presentation keep it clean people!”
Above is a screenshot of Jose’s Twitter feed that he received during his talk. Look at the top to see my response along with everyone else’s. You can see another screenshot of responses. According to Jose, this type of real-time feedback helped him create more Twitter converts.

My Muse Beckons
Yesterday morning (April 26, 2008), my muse whispered into my ear. Though she offered only the briefest glimpse of what was to come, I found myself at her mercy throughout the day. I spent my breaks and every extra moment designing, building and crafting a new WordPress theme for this site.
I’m calling this theme The Latest Post because I’ve designed it with one goal in mind: to emphasize my latest post with an eye towards featuring my content and fostering conversation. As its name implies, The Latest Post prominently displays my latest blog entry on the home page. Additionally, my aim is for the clean, understated design of this theme to give you easy access to my posts and invite your comments. Continue Reading
