Imagine a Digital Magazine

Imagine what a magazine might look like in a digital format. The concept presented in this video comes close to replicating all the features I might want and adds a few more:

My Office Phone: From Landline to VOIP to Skype

skype_logoDuring the past four years I’ve been using Lingo for my office phone. I switched to Lingo because I wanted to save money over the cost of a regular landline. Now, in another cost-cutting move, I’m switching again.

As of this morning, I’ve emailed my clients to alert them of my new office number and let them also know they can reach me on Skype. In this post, I’m going to share my experiences in making this switch as a way of helping anyone else that may be looking to do the same thing. Continue Reading

Real-Time News: Twitter Picture of Thursday’s NY Plane Crash

Janis Krums was riding on one of the first ferries to arrive at the scene of Thursday’s plane crash in New York’s Hudson River. He snapped a photo with his iPhone and tweeted it on his Twitter stream. Here’s a direct link to the photo.

His photo was one of the first photos of the crash, and it illustrates the emergence and ubiquity of the real-time web. For more info, check out Robert Scoble’s round-up of real-time coverage of the crash.

Wired Magazine (11/2008) Cover to Cover

Last night, I just finished reading Wired Magazine’s November issue cover-to-cover. That’s actually the first time I’ve done that with any periodical. I started on page one and read most every snippet, paragraph and article in order until I got to Found: Artifacts from the Future on the last page.

It’s not that I consider this a big accomplishment; however, it was an exercise in concentration because Wired is chock full of all sorts of bite-sized stories, tid-bits of information and factoids. Usually, I’ll start flipping through an issue reading a little here and there along with an article or two, and before I know it I’ll have covered most of the magazine and no longer desire to comb through what I’ve missed.

What’s funny about this is that I think Wired caters to the short attention spans of the modern technophile. Yet, they cater so well that I often miss much of what is there. So, this month rather than giving in to temptation, I discipled myself to stay on task until I had consumed every ounce of this month’s roundup of technology and pop culture from the Wired perspective. Now, as a footnote to this acomplishment, I’m sharing a couple of cool gadgets I spoted while coming to the close of this month’s issue (see what happens when you stick it out for the entire issue ;) ):
