While visiting my in-laws, I happened upon this busy bee. Too bad I didn’t think to shoot some shots with a high shutter speed so as to “freeze” his wings while flying. Oh well, I’m still learning now that I have a camera that can get most shots I put my mind to.

Day Lily and Hosta

Creamy Day Lily

Last year Beth planted a variety of lilies and hostas on the north side of our house. Traditionally, that side of the house has always been a hard place to grow anything. As these pictures show, things have definitely picked up this year. Good work, Beth!

Clover Closeup

Prior to the 1940s and 50s, clover was a common component of yard grass seed mixes. It serves to enrich a lawn’s soil with much needed nitrogen. However, it was at that time that seed producers decided to market clover as a weed. This in turn created a market for lawn fertilizers which add nitrogen to the soil due to the loss of clover. Fortunately, the clover in my yard is doing fine. ;)

During a break in the workday today, I headed out to the mailbox to photograph some flowers Beth planted a couple of years ago. They just bloomed this morning, and it was a beautiful day for getting some fantastic macro shots.

HDR Tulip

Uploaded by Michael Wender 3rd April, 2008

Today I went outside to photograph one of Beth’s tulips using a new technique that I’m learning: High Dynamic Range Imaging (HDRI). To get started, I read this tutorial and used some software called Picturenaut.
