Back in October, I blogged about some of my favorite gadget ads found in the back of Wired Magazine. One of the gadgets I mentioned was the ACM Wallet. Billed as a front-pocket wallet, it holds six cards (i.e. credit cards, driver’s license, insurance cards, etc) and includes a money clip. The wallet holds cards in slots that release their contents by sliding a button. The buttons feature interchangable labels with different colors or icons.
On the day I published the post, one of the kind folks at ACM Wallet sent me an email thanking me and offered to send some samples. I took him up on the offer, and now I’m sharing my impressions having used the ACM Wallet for over a month.
Never Keep Your Wallet in Your Back Pocket!
In school they taught us to never keep a wallet in our back pocket. They said sitting in a chair for years with a fat wallet pushing into your hip bone could eventually loosen the joint and contribute to its deterioration.
I like my hips the way they are, and I’d found keeping a wallet in my back pocket uncomfortable anyway. So, I only needed to hear that advice once.
Is that a potato on your thigh?
The only problem with keeping my wallet in my front pocket is that it sits on my thigh like a potato. Old and slightly off-color jokes aside, I didn’t like having a fat wallet in my pocket. So, if it worked, the ACM Wallet seemed like the perfect solution.
Silver is more my style…
When my samples arrived, at first I saw only one box inside the envelop. I opened it to find theĀ Camouflage model. Beth took one look at it and said, “Honey, you’re not using that. It looks like a toy.” As much as I didn’t want to, I had to agree.
Moments later my disappointment abated when I realized there was another box inside the envelop. My friend at ACM Wallet had also sent a Silver one. I quickly emptied my old wallet and paired down my cards to six (I hadn’t realized how much junk I’d been keeping in there).
No Looking Back
I haven’t been tempted to switch back to a regular wallet since. Despite the fact that it’s made of chrome and a rubberized polymer, my ACM Wallet is lighter than my old wallet, it takes up much less space in my front pocket, and it’s just plain fun to use.
Regarding that camo version, I’ve got a friend who hunts, and I’m thinking it will make a great Christmas gift. Furthermore, it’s not that bad looking. It’s just that camo isn’t my style.
All-in-all, I can definitely recommend the ACM Wallet, and I’d like to send out a big thank you to the folks out that way.
